I take the opportunity of this New Year, on behalf of FAO / ECTAD Bamako Unit, to address to you and to your families, our best wishes for 2011.

During 2010, despite funding difficulties, but thanks to the collaboration with the RAHC institutions (OIE and AU/IBAR) and other technical and financial partners, FAO/ECTAD Unit, through the various networks (RESOLAB, RESEPI, RESECOM, RESCOP), was able to implement activities aimed to strengthen animal health actors capacities at national and regional levels.

For 2011, based on the needs expressed by the 23 countries of Western and Central Africa, FAO / Bamako ECTAD will focus on the coordination of epidemiological surveillance activities through the revitalization of West and Central Africa ’RESEPI network, and on the implementation of RESOLAB 2010 annual workshop recommendations that established working groups on specifics topics such as rabies, foot and mouth disease and Peste des Petits ruminants and on some cross-cutting issues such as quality assurance system, funding for diagnostic laboratories, development of ownership of networks by the states and their sub-regional organizations.

We remain confident that this year, like previous ones, your support and your views will help us achieve these goals we have set together.
