The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) is a public veterinary health institute which conducts diagnosis and research activities in three main areas: animal health and welfare, food safety, and environmental protection.
IZSVe has its headquarters in Legnaro, Padova, Italy and 11 satellite laboratories distributed throughout the north-eastern region of Italy.
The staff consists of over 500 people including veterinarians, biologists, chemists, technicians and administrative staff.
The institute provides technical support to the government at a national and regional level in the areas of veterinary and public health.
In particular, IZSVe is involved in:
diagnosing and researching infectious livestock diseases and zoonoses
controlling the quality of food of animal origin
controlling the quality of animal feed
epidemiological surveillance and monitoring
planning animal health schemes
training veterinary service personnel
production of diagnostic reagents
To guarantee the high standard of its diagnostic tests IZSVe performs its analyses under the quality system certified nationally by SINAL (National Laboratory Accreditation System) and internationally by UNI EN 45100 and UNI CEI ISO/IEC 17025:2000 Standards.
